Peppermint Candy Platter DIY

Updated: Dec 18, 2019

I'm always on the lookout for new and interesting ways to display and style the food I create, whether it's for entertaining at home or taking food to a festive gathering. A few years ago I came across this fabulous peppermint platter DIY all over Pinterest. It is amazing. Not only does it have great colour on a table, but it is also edible! This platter is an easy DIY that will make all of your guests "ooh" and "aah".

Having made this peppermint platter a few times now, I feel presentation wise, it looks best with a darker hued cake, or bundt. In the picture above, I baked a chocolate bundt and added some peppermint extract into the glaze, to both compliment the flavours of the candies in the platter, and to add the flavouring people expect in the dessert after seeing the platter. I have also made this platter using both red and green peppermint candies. It is up to you whatever pattern or colour candy you would like to use, they all looked festive and fun.

The platter can be used once and then broken up into pieces to eat, or can be kept at room temperature for 1-2 weeks. Be careful of the stickiness though. If you are storing it on the counter, add some aluminum foil underneath as some brands of peppermint candies can be stickier than others.

Here's to festive food styling and Christmas DIY'ing,

Krista

Peppermint Platter DIY

Here's what you'll need:

1 - 9" spring form pan (you could use a 10" for more of a border if desired)

Aluminum foil, to line the spring form pan (covering the sides by 1" as well)

60-70 peppermint candies (you will need more if using a bigger spring form pan)

Here's how to make the Peppermint Platter:

Step 1: Line spring form pan with aluminum foil. Try to smooth out any creases as melted candy will take on that surface.

Step 2: Unwrap peppermints.

Step 3: Starting with an outer ring, lay peppermint candies flat around the edge of the pan. They should be lightly touching, but not jammed in.

Step 4: Bake at 350 for 8-10 minutes. Platter shown below was taken out of the oven at 11 minutes and it's slightly over melted on the outside edges.

Step 5: Let cool completely.

Step 6: Very carefully remove outer ring of spring form pan. Lift platter off pan bottom using aluminum foil edges. Invert onto a a smooth surface and peel aluminum foil off of platter.

Step 7: Use for holiday treat display!

*Tip: Make sure you watch the platter when it's baking, as the edges will melt quickly and the colour could run if using multi-coloured peppermints.
